Journal Entries from April 2002:
good rehearsal [Mon, 29 Apr 2002 | 1:55 PM]

1:55 PM - good rehearsal - After some major destressing Saturday night we nailed all of our new shows with little to no problems. This will be a great year. I look forward to seeing all of you out there!! -- Sheila

Another weekend of practice [Sun, 28 Apr 2002 | 6:01 PM]

6:01 PM - Another weekend of practice - Wow that was fun! I think it was the most fun yet!

Umm, I mean...wow what a lot of work we did! Grueling hours with blood, sweat and tears!

We're really looking forward to getting this season started. I think the hardest time is the last two weeks before faire season starts. It definitely is for us!

I'm ready to get my flirt on! Plus, I think our shows for this year are going to be pretty darn funny. If nothing else, we are laughing more! -- Willa

Some help from our fans? [Mon, 22 Apr 2002 | 7:17 PM]

7:17 PM - Some help from our fans? - I've been working on spiffing up our scripts this week and came across something I could use some help on. I thought it might be really neat for some of our fans to be able to help with a skit and maybe hear their own line in our show!

So here's the thing. There's a point in our new show, The Ring wherein Keirra asks, "Sheila, are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

Of course, we all know that Sheila is a dolt. (Sheila, sweetie, I say that in the nicest way possible...) However, we want Sheila to then spout off some random, insanely intelligent fact. The one she seems to like the most is, "The sun is a mass of incandescent gas?"

So help us out. What's something non-Sheila-like that she can say when Keirra asks that question? -- Willa

2002 is OURS! [Sun, 21 Apr 2002 | 11:15 AM]
Willa icon

11:15 AM - 2002 is OURS! - I'm getting all schmeepy just thinking about the upcoming season. It will be my 7th as a performer and I think it will also be the most fun!

Our shows are coming along nicely, even if Sheila doesn't happen to know how to lower her excited voice to a decible that humans can hear (but the goats sure think she's funny!) and Keirra needs a quick lesson in who the Power Puff Girls are.

*snickers*

Oh, and if this season's new catch phrase becomes WillaWillaWillaWillaWillaWilla! I think I shall scream.

In other news, I think we have a potentially great new slave understudy. Brandy (whose faire name is still pending) is coming along nicely. It's really an awful lot of fun breaking in a faire virgin properly. Especially when I get to do said breaking in with Sheila.

*muahahahahaha*

Okay, I think JP's calling. Next weekend we'll be rehearsing without him. Bring on the Cabana Boy! -- Willa

More practice [Fri, 19 Apr 2002 | 5:34 PM]

5:34 PM - More practice - We are rehearsing again the 27/28. The difference is John-Paul is out of town and you know what they say, "When the MANagers away the wenches will play" -- Sheila

Mistress Sheila speaks... [Thu, 18 Apr 2002 | 2:44 AM]

2:44 AM - Mistress Sheila speaks... - The goat herder's daughter has finally updated her vital stats. Drop by her section and check out what she had to say to Playwench Magazine in a recent interview... -- JohnPaul

Wench rehearsal VS high winds and uv rays [Wed, 17 Apr 2002 | 12:18 PM]
Keirra icon

12:18 PM - Wench rehearsal VS high winds and uv rays - The day started out pleasant, but as the wenches started to lace up and rehearse, Mother Nature got jealous and spiteful. Bodice burns for everyone,(still don't know how John-Paul got his)high winds and loose laundry are not a pretty combination. We went through show, after show, after show,after... you get the point. With a small amount of sanity left, an end was called to practice with the general consensus that the shows were looking good. By the end of it all,I was grateful for the outlines Willa,Willa,Willa Willa,Willa,Willa* had, thankfully typed up for some and drawn out pictures for the rest of us. It really is hard work, keeping all the insults for Mistress Sheila straight.
* that will make more sense after you see the new shows. I know I'm being a tease.

-- Keirra

Working with wenches... [Sun, 14 Apr 2002 | 10:34 PM]

10:34 PM - Working with wenches... - It's fun. It really is. At least, that's what I will say here where I know they can find and read this.

Today we had rehearsals. The sun was bright and the wind was strong and the girls were... Well, themselves. All the snappy comments, the jabbing adlibs and running gags came out wonderfully as we spent about five hours going over the new shows over, and over, and over. We had a visitor, Brandy, who is auditioning to be an understudy/backup, and she's probably already tired of the new shows :-) Or maybe not. I guess that's one great thing about being a loosely scripted performance troupe. The storyline is planned, and some of the general dialog as well, but you just never know where things may head.

Especially when Keirra gets a line.

I think this is going to be a very good year. If you saw the girls in 2001, you will really want to see them this year. -- JohnPaul

10:30 PM - The contract is in the mail... - Today we read, signed and mailed out our contracts for Salisbury Faire and Siouxland Renaissance Festival. In addition to this exciting paperwork, we also assembled for a dress rehearsal of all three new shows. In the sun. With the wind. In many ways, it was almost like being at a real renaissance festival (except no one tipped).

The shows are all new for 2002 (though one was originally written last year) but we've added some special things just for our biggest fans. To the rest of you, it's an inside joke... -- JohnPaul

10:03 AM - Second contract received! - The wonderful Salisbury Faire in Des Moines has accepted the Washer Well Wenches for their 2002 event. The contract is here so we'll review it later today (Sunday) during our rehearsal.

In other news, we have been contacted by a production company who is interested in booking us at an event outside of St. Louis which runs in September and October. We'll pass along more information as soon as we can. -- JohnPaul

First contract received! [Wed, 10 Apr 2002 | 2:05 AM]
Appearances icon

2:05 AM - First contract received! - A manager-rogue's work is never done. We have received our first contract of the season. Out of all the events we've talked to, the new kid on the block (Siouxland Renaissance Festival) is the first to get us the paperwork! Do they have their act together or what? This weekend we'll be getting together for another rehearsal and review the contract and hopefully have it signed and sent back on its way.

After that we have to contact St. Louis -- apparently they have our contract ready so we need to get it and look it over. If anyone out there has any stories to tell about any of the events we are planning to perform at, please share them with us. We'd like to hear good and bad (especially if there are bad things we might need to know about). -- JohnPaul
