Waterloo Ren Faire Schedule [Tue, 28 May 2002 | 11:25 PM]
Appearances icon

11:25 PM - Waterloo Ren Faire Schedule - I just stumbled across the Waterloo Ren Faire web page and saw that our schedule is listed. Here is where and when you can find the wenches doing the laundry...

Stage #6 - "The Dragon's Tale"
12:30 - Washer Well Wenches-j
2:30 - Washer Well Wenches-j
3:30 - Royal Parade-all
5:00 - Washer Well Wenches-j

We are not sure what the "j" represents, but "m" is listed by music acts such as Minstrosity and "d" by dancing acts such as Danza Mystique so we can only assume "j" must be for jiggling... -- JohnPaul

2:31 PM - Mmmm. Wenches. - We had a fantastic weekend (with decent tips, even) in Wentzville, Missouri. Mistress Sheila bought some "water wings" and a snorkle set for us to use as props in our intro (flood reference, you see). "In the event of a water landing, your seat bottom cushion may be used as a floatation device..." The wenches already had their flotation devices built in. The intros got twisted. Ye Olde Waffle House? We taught the audience to applaud wildly and boo. But they could have learned that part on their own.

Since Mistress Sheila couldn't be there on Saturday, I got to play her part. Against my will. I was never so happy to see her as I was on Sunday morning. At least thanks to our new friend Butterfly Bill, I wasn't the only man in a dress. I think his was much prettier than mine, though. Mine made my butt look big.

The gals were in great form. Several surprising lines got thrown out during the weekend which I hope we can incorporate into the official routines. We shared the stage with Smee and Blog, Faery Fire and Vince Conway. Oh, and that lunatic Queen Bea. She's twisted. She does dead animal impersanations. Bon Jovi indeed.

Thanks to everyone who came out and tipped heavily. We moved quite a few buttons and even a few fans. Only a few hundred more and we'll have them paid for... Sigh.

What else? Oh. Tons. Look for a bunch of photos over on http://atthefaire.com at some point. Yawn.

2:11 PM - Three day weekends at faire always feel like an eternity... - But only when the faire closes for the day on the third day. I had that faire adrenaline rushing through my veins and keeping my voice from completely going kaput. But as soon as they came through to escort the final patron to the exit gate, I pretty much just collapsed on a hay bale and watched the leaves in the trees grow.

This past weekend at faire was a great time! We made some new friends (Queen Bea, Sky Chair John, Coconut Girl Sandra, Beat Off Log Jeff, Sir Clisto, Sir Magnus, etc...) and got some new fans (hi Uhhh...Corey!) and hanging out with some good friends (Minstrosity and the Rickles the Pickle Fool!).

It's really quite odd to go to a festival where we're not already regulars and accepted by the masses. It was a strange sensation. I hope that we never throw off that vibe when we seem unapproachable to the fans or the other faire workers. We just like hanging out and playing :) Especially the playing...

Thank you, Greater St. Louis Renaissance Festival, for inviting us to your family. It was a blast!

2:00 PM - GSTL Memorial Day Weekend update... - After our first weekend at the 4th Annual Greater St. Louis Renaissance Faire (you know, the one with the flood) there wasn't really anything anything worse that could have happened for Memorial Day Weekend (except maybe a tornado or earthquake). The final three day weekend of the event was close to perfect. The expected rains on Saturday morning did not show up but the people did. It was a record attendance weekend. After the strong crowds of Sunday they even made all the staff, merchants and performers park way up at the top of the hill to give the low area to the patrons. Tip-wise the wenches did significantly better than the firt weekend (not hard to do) and most all of the shows had fairly decent sized audiences. Over 1000 photos (not all of the wenches) will soon appear over at http://atthefaire.com with a selection of the best wench shots to appear here. -- JohnPaul

Salisbury recap [Tue, 21 May 2002 | 11:32 PM]
Willa icon

11:32 PM - Salisbury recap - Oh my gosh, what a fun weekend! I love the festivals where I can walk around and just about everyone knows who I am. It's a fantastic feeling to be surrounded by friends, and Salisbury will always have a special place in my heart for that reason. Plus, it was the first festival I attended as Wilhelmina Wendeline Wylie. *sighs happily and remembers back*

This year was a smashing success as we returned for our second year performing at this faire! The weather was perfect, the crowds were superb and the shows went over so well!

Unfortunately, the masses are calling our show, "The Ring", "The One With the Rooster" now. Damn cock-a-doodle-doo stealing the spotlight. We may have to choke....

Oh wait. I'm supposed to watch the rooster jokes. *snickers*

Anyway, Salisbury was a smashing success and way too much fun. Thanks to all those whom I've known for years and am always giddy to see again. And thanks to everyone I met for the first time. May you soon be moved into that first catagory.

Now...back to the Greater St. Louis faire this weekend! Grab your snorkles!

Okay, so the weather forecast doesn't say it will flood again. But I just like saying the word snorkel. Go ahead. Try it. Say it outloud.

Snorkel.

Allright, I'll end this post now. I promise. I do!

Snorkel. -- Willa

8:47 PM - Salisbury Faire? No! Salisbury GREAT! - What a fantastic weekend! Not only was it the best tipping weekend the wWw have ever had, but it was the most pleasant weather I think I've ever seen at a festival. Dry and cool all weekend and just alot of fun.

The AtTheFaire.com message board "invasion" worked out great and tons of people joined us for the first show of Saturday and they all tipped quite well. It was alot of fun, and I look forward to trying to break our tip record later on this season.

This year we asked for (and got) the SAME STAGE for each show. No more lugging all the props around all day long! Somehow we managed to get the main front stage (Salisbury Stage) near the entrance. It has decent crowds every time but I guess the cleaved wonders always draw some kind of crowds. Ah, well.

It was just a great time. So many people watched our shows enough to get the running gags. The energy was nice and, best of all, no acts had to compete with the joust! Huzzah to Salisbury for being such a great festival to play at.

Next weekend it's back to Petit Lyon, France for the closing Memorial Day Weekend of the Greater St. Louis Renaissance Faire. Come see us! -- JohnPaul

11:56 AM - learning to swim - I think next ime I go down to St. Louis I will be wearing an intertube, water wings, a snorkle, and mask. i just think it's ironic that all our laundry got soaked so the Washer Well Wenches had to go home and actually do the laundry. -- Sheila

1st Experience at the Greater St. Louis Faire [Wed, 15 May 2002 | 3:04 PM]
Keirra icon

3:04 PM - 1st Experience at the Greater St. Louis Faire - It wasn't raining Men, Darn, but its a well known fact that wool shrinks when its wet. LOVE a good wet kilt contest. Despite the water we still managed to have a great time.
a few highlights from the past weekend and my observations of the area....
* RING around the Willa
* lessons on singeing off unwanted nose hair(eatfire.com)
* John-Paul really does weight 140 pounds soaking wet.
* France took a bath
* Dry humor is just as funny, wet
* I can have a harry chest
* pickle -pickle - rootbeer- swing , repeat
* Soap ON , Soap OFF , Soap ON, Soap OFF, Scrubbing Wench , hidden goat.

The Greater St. Louis area really is fashion sensitive. As soon as everyone got the fashion memo people started showing up from all over dressed to match everyone else. I have never seen so many hooded cloaks made in orange and yellow and everyone was carrying portable canopies. As long as they know what to wear, you can't keep them away. No Really we couldn't get rid of them finally we had to have help from these Men.
(not to gossip but they must live in a monk like community in anther town called Firedepartment,as they were all dressed alike in yellow pants and coats with matching boots, and no matter how many times I laid on the ground and asked for the kiss of life they all said "No". Had to have been monks)
These men came in got everyone to line-up and got them to leave, some children were so hard to get ride of they had to be carried out. I can't wait to see what the community decides to wear in 2 weeks.
Maybe it will be a pretty berry color. -- Keirra

One down, many more to go... [Mon, 13 May 2002 | 10:25 PM]
JohnPaul icon

10:25 PM - One down, many more to go... - Our first festival weekend of the season has come and gone and the girls did wonderfully. The new skits are strong and the laughter was even more (with smaller crowds) at the Greater St. Louis Renaissance Festival than what we typically got last year (which was quite a bit at times). I know everyone is just going to love Wenches Sell Out and Male Order. The Ring, which we thought would be our strongest show, may need some more revisions. Come see us and let us know what you think...

The festival was drizzly but fun. Rain on Sunday turned into a surprise flash flood which ended up trapping a few hundred of us in the park until fire department rescue workers could get us out! It was a shocking experience, but the mood stayed light. Music was played, people sang Queen songs and passed around drinks, and the festival kept us all fed and warm with fires and hot drinks. It was an amazing thing watching people toss down their stuff and help move hay bails to block the flow of water that was going directly into merchants booths. Pictures will be up on AtTheFaire.com soon so go check it out.

It was a very unique experience. More to come... -- JohnPaul

10:16 PM - St. Louis Island? - Never before in my life have I been so grateful to have such a boyant chest! We just returned from the Greater St. Louis Ren Faire in Wentzville, Missouri. Yes, I do realize that the faire was technically over last night, but Mother Nature is a Rennie, apparently, and didn't want the party to end. She is such a Rennie that she decided to trap us all on the fairegrounds for over 3 hours!

It was reported that 175 patrons and faire workers of all types were stuck on the fairegrounds when flash floods swept into the area at around 5pm on Sunday evening. There were two roads leading into the festival and both were under about a foot of water at the peak of the flooding. We had to wait patiently (and soggily) while rescue crews took everyone off the "island" one by one.

We'll be posting the full experience here soon, so keep watching.

Oh, and everyone seemed to really like our new shows! What a way to start the season, no? -- Willa

First faire of the season! [Fri, 10 May 2002 | 6:21 AM]
JohnPaul icon

6:21 AM - First faire of the season! - Well, it's that time of year again. Our first festival of the season. This year it's even a new festival (to us) -- the Greater St. Louis Renaissance Faire which is not actually located in St. Louis (but then Kansas City Renaissance Festival isn't in Kansas City... but I digress.)

This event is about 5 or 6 hours away from Des Moines (depending on which map program you trust) and it would normally not be an event we consider "in range" but this year we wanted to look into it because we'd been hearing so much about the "Wentzville festival" from folks like Chris (merchant director at the festival) and Rickles the Pickle Fool (whom we came to know and love at the first A Renaissance Affaire in Osceola, Iowa last year). Rick was given his own land, apparently, so any festival with management that allows that is alright with me.

Now, you might have noticed we had the event listed then removed and then listed again. Very observant of you. You get a cookie.

Suffice it to say they finally met all of our demands and altered the contract accordingly. Mistress Willa gets her dressing room in orange, while Sheila is getting her own private viewing area at the kilt contest. Keirra just wanted a babysitter for the weekend but there wasn't enough staff available to take care of it so she may be in a grumpy mood this weekend.

So ... come on out and see us there. Unless we get rained out (think happy warm thoughts, please) we'll be performing three times a day.

See ya there!

(Oh, for those who are really curious, they were indeed able to provide me with a list of all the women in the village who are over 18. You just can't find management like anywhere, ya know!) -- JohnPaul

12:20 PM - Greater St. Louis Renaissance Faire - We have received and accepted a contract to appear at the Greater St. Louis Renaissance Faire in Wentzville, Missouri. We have also received a contract from A Renaissance Affaire in Osceola. We will be reviewing it and sending it back in shortly. Huzzah! -- JohnPaul
